At the 17th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture during Grüne Woche, around 70 international agriculture ministers will discuss the future shape of a global and sustainable bioeconomy and global food security.
The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) invites you to the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), which will take place in Berlin from January 15 to 18, 2025 under the motto “Farming a Sustainable Bioeconomy”. The GFFA is the leading international conference on key issues for the future of the global agriculture and food industry. The event is being held for the 17th time in parallel to Grüne Woche in Berlin.
The agriculture ministers – together with international organizations – will address the question of how the sustainable bioeconomy can be strengthened and how the transition to a resource-efficient raw materials base can be promoted. After all, our economic system faces the challenge of replacing fossil, finite resources in order to mitigate the climate crisis and its impact on food security. A sustainable bioeconomy based on renewable raw materials conserves resources and creates new income opportunities. It is crucial to strengthen global food security. Agriculture ministers play a key role in the global bioeconomy, as agriculture, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture produce a significant proportion of biomass. Close cooperation at international level is essential in order to create coherent framework conditions. One significant step forward is the global bioeconomy initiative under the Brazilian G20 presidency, which the GFFA 2025 aims to build on.
In this context, the BMEL would like to use the GFFA as an international platform to strengthen the exchange and intensify the agricultural policy dialog. The GFFA 2025 will focus on the following four aspects, among others: • Strengthening sustainable production and food sovereignty. • Promote resilient and sustainable supply chains. • Reduce food losses and waste. • Strengthen vulnerable groups.
The GFFA is organized by the BMEL. A number of other well-known international organizations and players such as the EU Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the World Bank and the Munich Security Conference (MSC) are also involved in the organization.
